Production Photos
Into the Woods Jr. is the junior version of the Stephen Sondheim classic musical. This beautiful, haunting, and hilarious approach to the stories of Grimm's Fairy Tales follow characters as they each search for something in a mysterious woods.
Research
A combination of classic medieval wood-block printing, classic illustrations, and natural textures and items were employed for a fun take on medieval elements.
Draftings
12 designers plates were created in AutoCAD to detail the door frames, floor, groundplan, section, village unit, and various props for the production.
Initial Concept
A large floor and village unit with textural elements and large scale lining helped to emulate wood block printing and illustrations while muslin panels, rough wood door frames, and plenty of rope were used to shape the space. Lanterns hung from the grid above the stage to add an ethereal feeling to the environment.
Painters Elevations
5 painters elevations and hand painted tests were created to help create the scenic treatment.
Models
A black and white 1/4" scale model and a hand painted 3/8" scale models were created to detail the design changes through out the process.
