Her Naked Skin

Props Master - CCM 2017

Production Photos

Her Naked Skin is a stage drama about the suffragettes struggle for equality following the martyrdom of Emily Davison in 1913. It follows the women as they exist both in London and inside of a prison where they are placed after their protests. The script offers a rich cinematic story with over 30 scenes and 20 different locations, causing the production to rely on a minimalist multi-use set with historically accurate hand props and scenic dressing to give the audience a sense of time and place.

“Blue Sky” To Installation

Details, Management, & Planning

I managed a team of constantly changing artisans of various levels of skill in a full time operating props shop. I created an Excel spreadsheet detailing the 280 props for the show, breaking them down by the scene in which they operate, the status to pull, buy, or build, the character or characters that use them, the details of the prop given in the script, and more. I consistantly confirmed the design interface with various departments inclduing lighting, scenic design, technical direction, wigs and makeup, and costumes to ensure a smooth transition from “blue sky” to installation and show opening. Ran a crew of 30 people to load the props into the space.

Artisan-ship and scenic Integrity

Due to the inclusion of real historical events and the size of the theater, props were created with the utmost detail to historical accuracy. Such props included pieces of paper actually found in Emily Davison’s pockets upon her death, recreated historical newspapers based on specific days and events, a trick prop that allowed a woman to slit her wrists less than fifteen feet from the audience, a fireman’s hose that was used to hose down a misbehaving suffragette, and a trick force feeding sequence on a thrust stage.
